With the European Union and state funds, the Society for the Advancement and Development of Siirt (Gelder) has conducted a number of projects in order to find solutions to the problems not only of Siirt but also of the Southeastern Turkey. Gelder especially focused on increasing the employment of women and young girls, who were left alone after migrating to urban areas, so that they can socialize and also contribute financially to their families. By inviting lawyers, doctors and other specialists to its courses within the projects, the society increased the knowledge of women trainees on issues such as women's rights, social rights, women's and child health.

During the Botan Valley Ecotourism Project conducted in 2015, the society aimed to develop tourism by identifying and protecting the wildlife of the valley. This was the very first ecotourism project in Turkey focusing on identifying the geographical features and also the wildlife of an area.
